Two houses. One gate. Nobody else.

Land instead of neighbours

The estate takes the ten wooded acres behind the house. The guesthouse has three to four acres of its own, behind an eight-foot cedar fence draped in evergreen vine. Book both and the whole fourteen are yours.

A pool that reads the season

Both houses have a cowboy pool that heats and chills on a button, anywhere from 65 to 102 degrees. Filled with filtered rainwater. Heating and firewood are included, not billed as extras.

Guest review, The Guesthouse

Covered porch and grounds at the Noble Retreat guesthouse, Driftwood Texas

Bring the dog. We mean it.

There is a short dog-walking trail cut through the oaks and cedars, reserved for guesthouse guests, and a fenced dog run beside the cottage. Waste bags, bowls and unscented hypoallergenic paw wipes are already there, at no charge.

Dogs are welcome at both houses. We ask only that they stay leashed, because the land is open, the wildlife is real and the front gate is usually up.

Who built it

Built by someone who kept being disappointed.

Don had stayed in enough rentals around the world to know what usually goes missing: quality, comfort, and any evidence that someone had thought about it. So he built the alternative on fourteen acres in Driftwood, and then moved onto them.

Rainwater harvested and run through ozone filtration. Soho Home, West Elm and CB2 inside. A pool that works in February and August. The things guests never notice until they are absent.
